Bible scenes, saints or images of both heaven and hell. In Paris, Notre Dame boasts a carved stone scene of the Last Judgment over its main entrance that shows grinning devils hauling sinners off to hell in a chain gang. Among their catch are a rich man, a bishop and a king. On the south portal of the cathedral in Chartres, a devil carries off a naked prostitute on his back, her long hair flowing down to the ground. Visitors inspecting the wooden choir stalls in front of the main altar in some cathedrals can find scenes of everyday life attached to the underside of the seats. When the hinged seats are flipped up, they reveal carvings known as "misericords" (mercy seats) showing everything from angels and flowers to monsters, men at work or people engaged in sex. Cologne cathedral's spokesman, Matthias Deml, said the building's northern portal was bombed during World War II and stonemasons repairing it started carving all sorts of small statues to place on the roof, where they could not be seen from below. "From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, most of the decorations depicted plants, especially leaves," he told a local radio station. "After the war, the restoration work got more creative … the masons had more leeway and they began to make these statues." Some masons have put their own faces on statues. One master builder was immortalized as a man chatting on his cell phone. Although the cathedral has stopped the proliferation of secular statues, Francis' popularity was a good excuse to make an exception for a pope. "About 20,000 visitors stream into the cathedral daily through the main entrance on the western facade," the local daily Express wrote when it discovered the new statue. Hölle, Hölle, Hölle. Bis zu einem schicksalhaften Sommer vor sieben Jahre, als ich, nicht ganz so nüchtern, dann doch eines Nachmittags in dem bunten Wahnsinn gelandet bin. Was soll ich sagen, liebe Leser: Es war nicht die Hölle, es ist das Paradies! Eins, in dem Elvis vielfach weiterlebt und Costa Cordalis, wiewohl mimisch etwas eingeschränkt, vom Truck zu uns singt. Die Blumenmädchen, Schlümpfe, Brusthaartoupet-Träger, die da feiern, sie sind nahezu alle verdammt nett. Sie machen Platz in der S-Bahn, damit auch der letzte Zipfel Afroperücke noch in den Wagen passt. Sie teilen ihren letzten Rotkäppchen-Sekt mit dir. Und sind nicht sauer, wenn du ihnen beim ekstatischen Ausdruckstanz versehentlich einen Abdruck auf die weißen Plateaustiefel zimmerst. Wie soll man auch böse sein, wenn „Ein bisschen Frieden erklingt? Sicher, manche Menschen trinken sehr schnell sehr viel und glauben dann, dass die Dixi-Klo-Benutzung optional ist. Ich hoffe auch, dass die Kollegen der Stadtreinigung fürstlich bezahlt werden, die tags darauf tapfer auf den Kiez ausrücken müssen. Und ich kann grundsätzlich verstehen, dass die St. Paulianer es leid sind, dass der Pfeil immer so zielsicher auf ihren Stadtteil zeigt, wenn die Stadt am Eventrad dreht. Aber, könnten wir nicht auf ein anderes Großereignis dort verzichten? Auf eins, das auch ganz schön viel Lärm macht und die Luft auf jeden Fall doller verschmutzt, beispielsweise? Oder, Vorschlag zur Güte, verlegt den Schlagermove doch einfach in die HafenCity. Die kann ein bisschen Flower Power allemal gebrauchen. Ich wäre auch dort auf jeden Fall dabei. Manche Dinge kann man sich, am Ende, einfach nicht aussuchen. Kontra: Die Umzug gewordene Unlustigkeit Ich habe nichts gegen Schlager, echt nicht. Wenn ich mit meinem Mann Auto fahre, beschwert er sich regelmäßig, dass ich den „Rentnersender einstelle, während ich gerne mit meiner Textsicherheit prahle („Dein Haar glänzt wie ein Sternenzelt, dein Mund ist die Versuchung pur ...). Was ich nicht ertrage, ist der Schlagermove, diese Umzug gewordene Unlustigkeit. Ich erinnere mich an meinen ersten Schlagermove vor vielen Jahren. Ich hatte Dienst und sollte ein paar Stimmen einfangen. Leichte Übung, dachte ich arglos. Eine grobe Fehleinschätzung. Die Prilblumenträger waren schon kurz nach Beginn der Nachmittagssause hackedicht und blitzeblau wie ihre Afroperücken, und ich musste mich anstrengen, um unter den Hossa-johlenden Gruppen die ein, zwei zu finden, die sich noch vollzählig an ihre Namen erinnerten. Schlagermove heißt: Ganz normale Menschen, ja, auch viele Frauen meines fortgeschrittenen Alters geben sich – Stößchen! – die Kante und reihern irgendwann in fremder Leute Hauseingänge. Das sind nicht alles Jugendliche, die gerade von der Abifahrt aus Lloret de Mar zurück sind. Nein, der gemeine Schlagermove-Mitsänger ist erwachsen und göbelt normalerweise nirgendwohin. Er pinkelt den Rest des Jahres auch nicht gegen Hauswände. Er wäre zu Recht empört, wenn man ihn mit Ballermann-Blankziehern und RTL2-Besoffskis in einen Eimer wirft. Er und sie finden es nur super, sich einmal im Jahr als herrlich verrücktes Huhn zu fühlen und mit hunderttausend anderen crazy Typen in ausgeflippten 70er-Jahre-Kostümen von Amazon hinter dröhnenden Festwagen herzutanzen und „Eine neue Liebe ... zu schmettern. März 2019 wird der 29-jährige Deutschland bei der Weltmeisterschaft der Floristen in den USA vertreten. Der Floristmeister ist überwältigt von seinem Sieg: "Wahnsinn, ich freue mich riesig über diese einzigartige Chance und werde für euch mein Bestes beim World Cup geben!" Triebe überzeugte mit floristischem Fachwissen und Handwerk vor vier Branchenexperten Die Fleurop AG rief im Februar zum Vorentscheid auf, um den Teilnehmer für Deutschland zu küren. Bis zum 13. April 2018 konnten sich Floristen mit einer freien Kreativarbeit darum bewerben, beim FTD-Fleurop-Interflora World Cup 2019 anzutreten. Nach der Sichtung der schriftlich eingereichten Arbeiten wurden die drei besten Bewerber im Blind-Judging-Verfahren ausgewählt und nach Berlin eingeladen. Im nächsten Schritt hatten die Floristen die Möglichkeit, ihr floristisches Fachwissen und Handwerk in einem Interview sowie einer praktischen Überraschungsarbeit live vor einer Fachjury unter Beweis zu stellen. Die Jury setzte sich aus vier prominenten Branchenexperten zusammen: Gerda Prinz (Fachjurorin bei Florint und dem Fachverband Deutscher Floristen e. V.), Dr. Stefan Gegg (Vorstand der Fleurop AG), Klaus Wagener (Floristmeister, Weltmeister der Floristen 1985 und Geschäftsführer der BLOOM's GmbH) sowie Daniel Santamaria (selbstständiger Floral-Designer und Kreativdirektor der l'Escola Disseny Floral i Paisatgisme de Barcelona). Die Werkstücke wurden gemäß dem offiziellen 100-Punkte-System von Florint bewertet.
